Frequently Asked Questions

The questions we're asked most often—and the answers that tell the story behind our journey.

1. What happened to Letitia?

On January 1, 2023, Letitia suffered a stroke at just 34 years old, during her final semester of nursing school.

The stroke changed nearly every part of our lives. Recovery required extensive rehabilitation and a long period of rebuilding her strength, independence, and confidence.

She eventually returned to nursing as an LPN, continuing to care for others while navigating her own recovery.

2. Did Letitia ever finish nursing school?

No.

She had been working toward becoming a Registered Nurse and was only one semester away when the stroke happened. After recovering enough to return to school, she tried to continue her education, but the lasting effects of the stroke made it impossible to continue at that time.

Having to step away from that dream was one of the hardest losses of her journey.

But she didn't stop caring for others.

She found another way forward and returned to work as an LPN.

3. What happened after she returned to work?

For a while, we believed we were finally finding our way back to normal.

Letitia returned to caring for patients, we continued raising our children, and we began rebuilding our lives around everything that had changed.

Then, in early 2026, another serious challenge emerged.

Letitia began experiencing frequent seizure episodes, sometimes three to five times a day at their worst. This brought new hospital visits, testing, treatment, safety restrictions, and uncertainty into our lives.

Thankfully, the frequency has improved significantly.

But recovery continues.

4. Why is Letitia still working if she is recovering?

Because caring for others has always been part of who she is—and that hasn't changed.

Returning to nursing wasn't simply about having a job. It was a way for Letitia to reclaim something that the stroke had taken from her.

She wanted to contribute, care for patients, and prove to herself that her life could still have purpose after everything that happened.

She continues to balance that work with her own ongoing recovery.

5. Why do you need a different home?

We're not searching for a bigger home.

We're searching for one that will allow Letitia to live more safely and allow recovery to continue for decades to come.

Our current home wasn't designed around the challenges we face today. Accessibility, stairs, safety, and the ability to accommodate Letitia's ongoing medical needs have become much more important than they ever were before her stroke.

We want a home where our family can feel secure and where Letitia can have as much independence as possible.

6. Why can't you simply buy the house yourselves?

We're working toward doing exactly that.

We both work. We're paying our bills and rebuilding our finances.

But the last three years came with enormous financial consequences.

Medical expenses, lost income, rehabilitation, ongoing treatment, student loans, and the cost of simply getting through years of medical uncertainty consumed much of the savings we had worked hard to build.

We're not asking someone else to build our future for us.

We're asking for help getting over the financial obstacle that years of illness created.

7. What keeps your family going?

Faith. Hope. Family.

Those three words have carried us through everything.

Our children have been at the center of every decision we've made. They have watched their mother fight through some incredibly difficult moments, and they have learned resilience far earlier than any child should have to.

They remind us why we keep moving forward.

8. What does your goal actually mean?

Our goal isn't simply to purchase a house.

It's to create a safer foundation for the next chapter of our family's life.

A place where Letitia can recover with fewer obstacles, where our children can feel secure, and where we can build a sustainable future around the reality of our lives today.

We're not searching for a dream home—we're searching for one that will let Letitia live safely for decades to come.

9. What happens if you don't reach the full goal?

We'll keep going.

We've learned over the past three years that progress doesn't always happen all at once.

Every donation, every share, and every person who tells someone else about our story moves us forward.

Whatever happens, we'll continue working toward a safer home for our family.

10. Are you asking people to feel sorry for your family?

No.

We don't want sympathy.

We want people to understand the journey.

Letitia has spent more than three years fighting to rebuild her life. We're proud of how far she's come, and we don't want her story defined by what happened to her.

We want it defined by what she did afterward.

She fought.

She adapted.

She went back to work.

And she continues moving forward.

11. How can I help if I can't donate?

Share our story.

That may be the most important thing you can do.

Send the website to someone who might connect with it. Share the GoFundMe. Tell a friend. Send it to a journalist, organization, podcast, or storyteller.

You never know who might see it.

12. Are you available for interviews?

Yes.

We're open to speaking with journalists, podcasts, media outlets, organizations, and storytellers who believe our experience could help or inspire others.

Our Media Kit contains additional information, photographs, our timeline, interview material, and contact information.

What do you hope people take away from your story?

More than anything, we hope people remember three things:

Recovery is possible.

Hope is powerful.

Love keeps promises.

Our story isn't finished.

We're still recovering.

We're still rebuilding.

And we're still moving forward—one step at a time.

"If this story helps even one family believe tomorrow can still be better, then sharing it has been worth it."
