Following the Journey

This story didn't end when Letitia walked out of the hospital after her stroke.

Recovery has never been a straight line. There have been victories, setbacks, new diagnoses, unexpected hospital visits, and moments when we simply didn't know what would happen next.

This page is where we'll share those moments as they happen.

Not because we want our lives to be defined by illness, but because this is the reality of the road we're still walking.

AUGUST 3, 2026

Another Unexpected Hospital Stay

Just when we thought things might finally be settling down, another frightening morning reminded us that this journey isn't over.

On August 3, Letitia suddenly became extremely dizzy and told me she was going to fall. I was able to catch her and get her safely to the floor.

Then she became unresponsive.

For approximately 35 minutes, she remained unconscious while paramedics evaluated her. Her vital signs remained good, but she would not wake up normally.

While she was still with the paramedics, she experienced a seizure.

When she finally woke up, she was extremely dizzy and had a severe headache. She described the dizziness as the room spinning, and movement made it significantly worse.

We went to the emergency room, where doctors began searching for an explanation.

Her initial blood work and CT scans did not show anything obvious.

Because of her history, an MRI was also performed. The report raised a question about a few very small areas in the cerebellum, but noted that they appeared possibly to be artifact rather than a definite new stroke.

Another unexpected finding was a very low early-morning cortisol level, which doctors also considered as they continued trying to understand what had happened.

Once again, we found ourselves sitting in a hospital room, waiting for answers.

And once again, Letitia did what she has done since January 1, 2023.

She kept fighting.

Four days in the hospital, discharged with no real answers, but a referral to UPMC Stroke Clinic August 31st to hopefully get some answers

July 31, 2026

As of today, she has had over 175 seizures since January 30th, 2026

We continue to work with the FND clinic at UPMC for answers and help getting them resolved

June 30, 2026

seizures continue with 24 this month alone

May 20, 2026

Letitia, fighting like she always does, started a new job at Penn Highlands Healthcare as an LPN

April 10, 2026

Today, Letitia lost her job as an LPN at Aveanna Healthcare due to “Safety Concerns” with her seizure histoty

Despite multiple clearances from her doctors and neurologists, she has now lost the one thing she has fought so hard for.

March 6, 2026

EMU determined seizures to be non epileptic, FDS, and referred Letitia to the Functional Neurology Department for treatment

March 3, 2026

Letitia begins her stay at the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at UPMC Pittsburgh

February 12, 2026

Letitia is discharged from UPMC after a 3 day admission, and is referred to the EMU for seizure follow up

She experienced 3 seizures and one syncope episode while admitted

February 9, 2026

After multiple hospital visits since January 30, Letitia is admitted to UPMC Pittsburgh for treatments

February 5, 2026

I found Letitia face down on the kitchen floor, unresponsive

Ambulance was called, and she was treated at the ER, and admitted.

After testing, she was released, with no real cause being determined.

January 30, 2026

Letitia suffers a seizure at 6:30am while laying in bed.

We took her to the ER for evaluation, where it was determined her Depacote levels were low.

She was treated and told to follow up with neurology.

Lost drivers license again.

Letitia starts new LPN job in a school based setting caring for pediatric patient

Letitia is hired by Aveanna Healthcare to be an LPN for private pediatric care

Letitia suffers another seizure

She got very dizzy while sitting at the table and fell to the ground.

She was put on anti-seizure meds and evaluated by neruo

Lost Drivers license for 6 months (must be seizure free)

Letitia gets her license as an LPN in PA

Not quite the RN license she has wanted, but it’s a great start after everything she has been through.

July 27, 2024

Letitia suffers her first Seizure, while in the car after leaving the doctors office.

She loses consciousness, and is taken by Ambulance to ER for evaluation

It was deemed the seizure was likely her bodies reaction to the statusmigranosis.

July 22, 2024

Letitia is sent to Cleveland Clinic for evaluation

She is admitted and treated for the Migraine and evaluated for any other issues

July 10, 2024

Letitia started with StatusMigranosis, a migraine that wouldn’t go away

January 14, 2024

Letitia returns to nursing school, but her body has other plans.

She ultimately has to withdraw from the program, watching her dream slip further away
